A laugh at the Irish for you: Comedy night celebrates St. Patrick's Day A LAUGH AT THE IRISH FOR YOU
By Rosemary FordWhat do you call a fake stone in Ireland?
A sham rock.
When is an Irish potato not an Irish potato?
When it's a French fry.
What do you call a diseased Irish criminal?
A leper con.
Yes, these are some bad Irish jokes. But if you are looking for some good Irish humor, check out the Pre-St. Patrick's Day Comedy Night on Saturday at King's Court in Hudson, N.H.
"There is so much that is funny about St. Patrick's Day," said host and comedian Jay Grove of Concord, N.H.
Grove, who is half-Irish and half-black, aptly pointed out that this time of year everyone seems to be Irish, and wants to laugh, so this is a great show to be part of.
"People are out, and they want to be entertained," Grove said.
Medford's Jack Lynch, recently featured on "Chronicle," headlines the show with other local comedians, including Amy Tee of Haverhill, Lawrence native Mac Livingston and Hudson's own Bill Marshall.
"St. Patty's Day is always a time for joking in my family," Marshall said..
Lynch said his act will combine some of his usual observations about life, along with the holiday-related fare.
"My ancestors came to this country with one thing in mind: to catch Last Call," Lynch joked.
Grove likes to joke, too, especially about New Hampshire when he performs in the Granite State.
One of his favorites stories is about an experience he had with fashions at the Deerfield Fair, seeing sequined tube tops, nipple piercings and shaggy mullets.
"And that was just the dude running the tilt-a-whirl," Grove quipped.
Livingston, who now resides in East Hampstead, N.H., gears some of his act toward jokes about his Irish family.
"There are a lot of funny Irish jokes out there," he said. "But a lot of them, you can't print."
He's also planning to write a few jokes in honor of the holiday. With the trappings of St. Patrick's Day all around him, he doesn't think it will be too hard.
"I am sure there will be green drinks that night," he said of the show in Hudson. "By the end of the night, I am sure the parking lot will be green, as well."
The evening will feature an Italian buffet dinner from 6 to 8 p.m., with the show starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are available for the buffet and show or show only.
